After finishing the Sistine ceiling, Michelangelo began work for Popes Leo X and Clement VII (Giovanni and Giuliano de' Medici). Both Popes employed Michelangelo on various projects in Florence such as the facade of San Lorenzo, the New Sacristy, and the Laurentian Library.
