In 1401, Ghiberti exploded onto the Florentine art scene by winning the competition for the commission of a set of bronze doors for Florence Baptistry. These doors, now known as the “North Doors,” lead to Ghiberti receiving a contract for a second set of bronze doors known as the “Gates of Paradise” that are often described as the world’s most beautiful and famous doors.
