Originally built in the middle of the 15th century for the banker Luca Pitti, the Palazzo Pitti was later purchased by Duchess Eleonora of Toledo and transformed into Europe's seminal royal palace as home to the royal Medici family. Today, the building houses four separate museums, the most important of which is the Palatine Gallery. Join me for this video lecture where we will explore the extraordinary collection of paintings in the Palatine Gallery, which includes works by Raphael, Caravaggio, Titian, and Rubens.
