Beginning in the workshop of the painter Domenico Ghirlandaio where Michelangelo quickly distinguished himself, he then moved on to the largesse of the Medici family and their sculpture garden at San Marco. It was for the Medici that the sculptor produced his earliest works before moving on to his first #1 hit - "The Pietà!"
